AI companion pricing, explained
Of the 32 platforms we track, only 10 publish verifiable pricing at all — the rest reveal numbers at checkout or behind a signup. Here's how the money actually works in this category, so a pricing page can't surprise you.
The three-layer bill
Most platforms stack up to three layers: a subscription (unlocks the core experience), tokens or credits (meter expensive things like images, voice minutes and video), and one-off unlocks. The advertised price is layer one. If you plan to generate images daily, layer two is the real bill.
The annual-plan asterisk
The headline "from $X/mo" almost always means the longest plan, billed upfront. That's not a scam — it's how our own product prices too (PureLove's verified $2.99/mo is the 12-month rate; monthly costs more) — but you should know which number you're comparing. Our price table uses the cheapest verified per-month rate for every app, consistently.
Unpublished pricing is a data point
When a platform shows prices only at checkout, comparisons get built from secondary sources — which is why our per-app pricing pages mark those numbers unconfirmed instead of presenting them as fact. If a number matters to you and it's marked unconfirmed, verify it at checkout before paying.
How to read any pricing page in 60 seconds
- Find the monthly (not annual) price — that's the commitment-free number.
- Search the page for "tokens", "credits" or "coins" — that's the metered layer.
- Check what the free tier actually includes versus merely previews.
- Check whether NSFW is included in the tier you're buying or is a separate unlock.
