How to choose an AI girlfriend app

Across the 32 platforms we track, verified entry pricing runs from $4.99/mo to $19.99/mo, 19 verifiably allow NSFW content and 2 verifiably don't. That spread means "best app" is the wrong question — the right one is which of these five things you actually care about.

1. What does it really cost?

Two numbers matter: the entry price (usually the long plan) and what runs on tokens on top of it — images, voice and video are extra on most platforms. We keep a single verified price table so you don't have to open ten checkout pages. If an app doesn't publish pricing, treat that as information.

2. What does its NSFW policy actually say?

Don't rely on Reddit folklore — policies are published documents. Some platforms allow adult content outright, some allow it partially or behind a paid unlock, some ban it and enforce the ban. 3. Does it remember you?

Long-term memory is the difference between a companion and a chatbot with amnesia. It's also one of the most over-claimed features in the niche — which is why we only credit it where it's verifiable on an official page, and mark it unconfirmed elsewhere.

4. Voice: messages, calls, or neither?

"Voice" can mean anything from a play button on some replies to live calls. If it matters to you, check which tier includes it and whether it burns tokens — the per-app rows in our comparisons spell this out.

5. Images — included, extra, or absent?

Image generation is near-universally token-metered even on paid plans. Budget for it if you'll use it, ignore apps that charge for it if you won't.
